CHIANG MAI, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Only two berths of the last 16 of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship remained undecided after the second round of preliminary matches completed on Monday.
All four pools completed on Monday decided the respective two qualified teams.
In Pool E, Canada turned the match against Spain around 3-2 (22-25, 28-26, 24-26, 25-15, 15-10), and joined Turkiye to be the top two.
In Pool F, despite a glitch in the second set, China defeated Colombia 4-1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-14, 25-16) and would vie for the top spot of the group against the Dominican Republic, which secured its ticket after sweeping Mexico in straight sets.
In Pool G, Germany and Poland advanced to the round of 16 after beating Vietnam and Kenya, respectively.
A major surprise was averted in Group H after Japan came back from behind to beat Ukraine 3-2 (25-27, 20-25, 25-20, 26-24, 15-11). Serbia overpowered Cameroon in straight sets to become the other qualified team of the group.
Pools A, B, C and D will resume actions on Tuesday for the third preliminary round, with only two remaining berths for the last 16 to be decided.
