Vietnam appoints new Ho Chi Minh City Party chief

HANOI, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee on Monday appointed Tran Luu Quang as Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2021-2025 term, Vietnam News Agency reported.

Quang has been moved from his current position as chairman of the CPV Central Committee's Commission for Policies and Strategies to take on the new role.

Quang, born in 1967 in the southern province of Tay Ninh, was previously Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and Deputy Prime Minister before serving as the commission's head.

Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo member and outgoing Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, has been tasked with serving as a standing member of the subcommittee responsible for drafting documents for the 14th National Party Congress.
