VIENTIANE, June 17 (Xinhua) -- The National Assembly (NA) of Laos has called on the government to intensify efforts in developing the country's electricity sector to ensure energy security and sustainability.

After thorough discussions during the ninth ordinary session of the Lao National Assembly's ninth legislature, the NA made key recommendations to address major issues in the electricity sector and promote a self-reliant, stable economy powered by sustainable and affordable energy, NA Vice President Sommad Pholsena said at a press conference on Monday.

The parliament emphasized reducing reliance on electricity imports by building a resilient national power system and expanding renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and thermal power.
