Cambodia beats Hong Kong, China for first time in international football

PHNOM PENH, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Host Cambodia defeated Hong Kong, China 2-0 in an international football friendly on Tuesday night, securing its first-ever victory over the visitor.

Played at Phnom Penh's Olympic Stadium, the match, which was broadcast live on BTV News, attracted a crowd of more than 20,000 fans.

Cambodia took the lead in first-half stoppage time through midfielder Yudai Ogawa. Forward Sieng Chanthea added a second goal in the 50th minute.

Hong Kong, China pushed hard to find a breakthrough but remained scoreless until the final whistle.

The victory marked Cambodia's first win over Hong Kong, China, ending an 11-match winless run consisting of eight defeats and three draws dating back to 1957.

In the latest FIFA world rankings, Cambodia is ranked 175th, while Hong Kong, China sits in 156th place.
