Cambodian senate president urges armed forces to exercise restraint amid renewed conflict with Thailand

PHNOM PENH, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Monday urged frontline troops to exercise restraint amid renewed armed conflict with Thai soldiers, which he said had continued since Sunday.

"All frontline forces must be patient because the invaders have been using all kinds of weapons to fire on us since yesterday (Dec. 7), last night, and this morning," he said in a social media post.

He also told authorities at all levels to assist people who have fled from dangerous border areas to safe zones.

Hun Sen said he has cancelled other tasks in order to join Prime Minister Hun Manet in ordering the armed forces against the invasion.

Despite this, he said Cambodian athletes will participate as planned in the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand as usual.
