VIENTIANE, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Visit Laos Year 2024 tourism promotion campaign will be officially launched in November, aimed at attracting at least 4.6 million foreign and Lao tourists in 2024, local media reported Monday.
The campaign will bring tourists to Laos and encourage the creation of products that will broaden the scope of tourism and add value to products, as well as improve the quality of services in line with the requirements of target market groups, the Vientiane Mai newspaper quoted Laos' Deputy Prime Minister Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune as saying at a meeting here last Friday.
"The program will provide cultural activities and traditional festivals in central and local areas, as well as bolstering domestic tourism and inspiring more foreign tourists to visit Laos, which will generate more revenue for local communities," he added.
Also at the meeting, Lao Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Suanesavanh Vignaket said that the campaign has scheduled 75 activities, with 14 of them to be held nationwide and 61 in provinces.
Lao authorities have improved visitor facilities and set up more outdoor activities such as hiking and climbing, as well as campsites.
They have also issued technical and safety certificates in relation to tourist activities such as ziplining, climbing, ballooning, paramotor trips and cruises, as well as improving access to tourist attractions.
The Lao government hopes that at least 4.6 million foreign and Lao tourists will travel in the Southeast Asian country in 2024, generating revenue of 712 million U.S. dollars.
