YANGON -- Zheng Zhihong, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy to Myanmar on Tuesday attended the launching ceremony of Year 2022 Donation Project to Mary Chapman School for the Deaf.

At the ceremony, Zheng said this year, the embassy will provide more than 20 million kyats (10,810 U.S. dollars) worth of daily food supplies to the school. (Myanmar-China-Donation)

NEW DELHI -- The Indian government would soon set up dedicated control rooms and form special enforcement teams to check illegal manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of banned single-use plastic (SUP) items.

All states and territories in the country have been asked to set up border checkpoints to stop inter-state movement of any banned SUP items, said an official announcement, which reiterated a complete ban on use of SUP in the country with effect from July 1. (India-SUP-Ban)

TOKYO -- Japan's minister in charge of coronavirus measures on Tuesday said the government is "closely monitoring" the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

Daishiro Yamagiwa, following the conclusion of a cabinet meeting, also told a press briefing that rising cases overseas involving Omicron's sub-variants BA.4 and BA.5 had not gone unnoticed by the government. (Japan-COVID-19)

BANGKOK -- Thailand's two deputy prime ministers, Anutin Charnvirakul and Jurin Laksanavisit, have tested positive for COVID-19 after overseas visits, local media reported Tuesday.

Anutin, who is also the country's public health minister, and Jurin, who is also the commerce minister, were both confirmed as being infected days after they returned from abroad. (Thailand-COVID-19)

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, the special envoy of the ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) chair on Myanmar, will pay a working visit from June 29 to July 3 to Myanmar, Cambodia's foreign ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

Sokhonn, who is also a deputy prime minister, will be accompanied by ASEAN's deputy secretary-general Ekkaphab Phanthavong, and a number of senior government officials, as well as staff from the ASEAN Secretariat, the statement said. (Cambodia-Myanmar-FM-Visit)
