NEPALGANJ, Nepal - Passengers on a Nepal Airlines trip were given the shock of their life when they stepped off the plane and discovered they were at the wrong airport in the wrong city.
Nepal Airlines' Twin Otter pilot heading for Salle airport landed at Nepalganj airport as his duty hours ended during the flight. He was out of time to fly to Salle and return to Nepalgunj according to the timetable.
The flight scheduled in the morning was delayed due to fog and high winds and finally took off after eight hours delay.
Due to the delay, the on-duty captain barely had an hour before his shift ended. It was also not possible to fly from Nepalgunj to Salle airport. As a result, the flight captain chose to fly to Nepalgunj, where there was better lodging.
The pilot kept the passengers in the dark about the revised plan.
Officials from Nepal Airlines confirmed that all passengers were kept up in hotels at the carrier's expense. On Monday morning, they were airlifted to Rukum.
