Laos reports 2 more COVID-19 deaths

VIENTIANE, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Lao Ministry of Health on Thursday reported two new COVID-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, raising its national death toll to 49.

Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control under the Lao Ministry of Health Rattanaxay Phetsouvanh, told a press conference here on Thursday that the country recorded 388 new COVID-19 infections and two new deaths over the past 24 hours, raising the total infections tally to 33,994.

One of those who died was a 71-year-old woman from Savannakhet province, who suffered from diabetes and passed away in a field hospital.

The second case was a 50-year-old man living in Lao capital Vientiane, who had been previously treated for tuberculosis.

Rattanaxay warned people to strictly observe the COVID-19 prevention measures.

Laos reported its first two COVID-19 cases on March 24 last year.
