PARIS -- An investigation has been opened into a knife attack that has left at least three dead and several others injured at a church in the French city of Nice on Thursday morning, according to the country's national anti-terrorism prosecutor's office (PNAT).

The PNAT said it would investigate the incident under "attempted assassination in connection with a terrorist enterprise."

The attack occurred at around 9 a.m. (0800 GMT) at the Notre-Dame basilica in the heart of the city of Nice, news channel BFMTV reported. (France-Terror attack-Nice)

HANOI -- At least 16 people died in landslides in Vietnam's central Quang Nam province as of 9:30 local time Thursday, Vietnam News Agency reported.

The death toll is up from eight reported earlier on Thursday.

Two separate landslides occurred in Tra Van and Tra Leng communes in Nam Tra My district of Quang Nam province on Wednesday. The newly found eight bodies were from Tra Leng commune, as the eight found earlier were all from the other commune, according to the latest report by the news agency. (Vietnam-Natural Disaster)

BANGKOK -- An oil tanker truck accidentally caught fire, which quickly spread and gutted shophouses and automobiles on a road in northeastern Thailand during wee hours of Thursday, police said.

The truck, laden with 45,000 liters of gasoline, was ablaze immediately after it had skidded on the rain-soaked road surface and hit the rear of another trailer truck waiting for the green light at an intersection in the Nong Ki district, the Buriram province, said police superintendent Pol. Col. Yutthana Traithip.

The fire broke out at about one hour after midnight, according to him. (Thailand-Tanker-Fire)

SYDNEY -- The Marshall Islands has confirmed the first COVID-19 case among some workers at a U.S. military base in the Pacific island country.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Marshall Islands authorities said two workers at a U.S. garrison on Kwajalein Atoll have tested positive for the virus, who arrived on Tuesday on a direct flight from Hawaii to the atoll. (Marshall Islands-COVID-19)
