DHAKA -- Bangladesh reported 2,381 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, dipping from Sunday's high of 2,545.

"A total of 2,381 new COVID-19 positive cases and 22 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh," senior Health Ministry official Nasima Sultana told a media briefing on Monday afternoon in Dhaka.

"The total number of positive cases is now 49,534 and death toll stands currently at 672," she added. (Bangladesh-COVID-19 Cases)

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's famed Angkor Archeological Park received 386,093 foreign tourists during the first five months of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, down 65 percent over the same period last year, said a statement on Monday.

The ancient park earned gross revenue of 18.02 million U.S. dollars from ticket sales during the January-May period this year, down 64 percent over the same period last year, said the state-owned Angkor Enterprise's statement.

The park attracted 1,776 foreigners and earned 72,037 U.S. dollars from ticket sales in May, down 98.7 percent and 98.8 percent respectively compared to the same month last year. (Cambodia- Angkor Archeological Park-Ticket Income)

NEW DELHI -- India became the seventh worst-hit country due to COVID-19 pandemic as the World Health Organisation (WHO) COVID-19 tracker had placed the country on rank seven in the list.

India's federal health ministry said the total number of cases in the country reached 190,535 with 5,394 deaths on Monday.

According to the ministry, 8,392 positive cases were reported in the past 24 hours, which so far is the highest single-day spike in the cases across the country. (India-COVID-19 Cases)

CANBERRA -- The minister for Indigenous Australians has revealed that a referendum on constitutional recognition for the first group of inhabitants could be held within 18 months.

Ken Wyatt, the first indigenous person to serve as the minister for Indigenous Australians, told News Corp Australia on Sunday night that he was optimistic that a referendum would be held before the next general election in 2022 despite delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

If successful, the referendum would change the wording of the Australian Constitution to recognize the indigenous people as the first inhabitants of the continent. (Australia-Referendum-Date)

NEW DELHI -- Southwest monsoon Monday hit India's southern state of Kerala, India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said.

"Southwest monsoon has set in over Kerala today, the 1st June 2020," IMD in a brief statement said.

The southwest monsoon over Kerala has thus marked the commencement of the four-month-long rainfall season in India.

IMD director general Mrutyunjay Mohapatra had said they are expecting favourable conditions to develop from Monday. (India-Monsoon)
