Alzheimer drug shows side-effects

The Cambodia News.Net
Tuesday 29th July, 2008

Tests of a new Alzheimer's drug, made in conjunction by Elan and Wyeth, has shown there is a risk of a potentially serious side effect.

Shares of both companies plunged after the announcement of the side effect.

The update on medicine has been closely watched by investors who were hoping the drug, which could modify the course of Alzheimer's disease, would be side-effect free.

Twelve people with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's who were treated with the drug developed a build-up of fluid in the brain.
